Lot 3544 NEW YORK MARKED SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1888

RAMROD-BAYONET TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 528229. Bbl. 32 5/8". Pinned blade front sight with Buffington rear sight. 1884 dated low arch breech block. "1873" dated lock. 2-band fastened walnut stock with iron fitting. Standard style ramrod bayonet. Left ear of stock an "SWP" cartouche with an 1891 date. Right side of stock is marked w/ a small "812" followed by a larger "13 NY" New York unit marking. CONDITION: bbl. retains 50% dull fading blue showing areas of wear with handling marks. Action, lock, and fittings have faded gray/brown patina showing spotted corrosion. Sanded and refinished stock with small chips forward of the lock. Bore has worn rifling with consistent mild to moderate pitting. PROVENANCE: Estate of Russell Dickerman. (01-27132/DS). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
